Yardley, PA Information

Yardley, PA is a wonderful community to call home. Whether you are a young professional working in nearby Philadelphia or are drawn to the area for its reputation as a great place to raise a family, Yardley has something for everyone. If you’re planning to purchase a home in Yardley or are still considering your options, allow me to tell you a bit more about this community and what makes it so special.

The History of Yardley, PA

Though founded by William Yardley in 1682, Yardley, PA truly began to flourish in 1710 when the ferry line set up by William’s nephew, Thomas, began operation. Situated on the Delaware River, the ferry became an important link between western New Jersey and three major roads leading to Philadelphia, thus attracting more settlers and businesses to the area. In later years, the railroad system made its debut in the area. It ran from New York directly through Yardley to a station just south of the village.

In addition to the transportation of goods, Yardley is also known for its contribution to American history as a station along the Underground Railroad. In fact, many of the stops that existed along the railroad are still standing today, and if you’re lucky, you may even be able to visit a few.

Yardley, PA Today

Yardley is home to national landmarks, a beautiful canal system, and entertainment opportunities in the local downtown district. The town borders New Jersey to the East and Lower Makefield Township to its North, South, and West. No matter where you find yourself in this small borough, however, you can be assured that its close proximity to the Delaware River will offer picturesque views and undeniable charm.

Things to Do in Yardley, PA

Yardley’s dining scene is both simple and classic with a modern twist, featuring quite a few BYOB options. If you’re looking for a night out along the river, I recommend enjoying a bite to eat at Charcoal, a highly rated steakhouse and a favorite local treat.

The corridor of the neighborhood features gift shops, jewelry stores, and florists, all of which add vibrancy to the area. You can also enjoy a full day of hiking, biking, walking, and running along the historic canal, and then spend the evening coming together with the community to enjoy live music at one of the local pubs.
